Yavapai College Gunsmithing Program: After years of frustration as a competitive shooter and hunter trying to find quality gunsmithing, JD decided to take matters into his own hands. He researched the options to find the best instruction available and became a student at Yavapai College in 2003. Yavapai offered comprehensive courses taught by people who also actually make a living in the field. Their experience and the quality of instruction made them the obvious pick for someone as detail oriented as JD. While completing the 2 year program JD became friends with his instructors and was introduced to and mentored by many great names in the gun world. It was a terrific experience and for anyone interested you can find information about this program here.
J & G Sales: JD worked in sales for J&G. They are a HUGE retailer of all types of firearms, ammunition, and accessories. Located in Prescott, AZ they were a wonderful place to work with customers and evaluate new products. Their website is here.
Classic Barrel & Gunworks: Owned and operated by Dan Pedersen, a wonderful mentor and barrel maker. Dan worked for Fred Wells at Wells Sport Store for many years before going out on his own. Sadly Fred has passed away but Rachel Wells is stil providing quality engraving- you can reach her at 928-445-3655. JD was lucky enough to have worked for Dan while in school helping with the metal work to produce new and rechambered cutrifle barrels. You can find Dan's website here.
McMillan Rifle Company: JD worked at McMillan Bros as a machinist/gunsmith. It was a terrific experience to work in such a production type shop. Valuable contacts and experience were gained and helped to shape the direction JD would take in his gun building career. If you would like more information about McMillan check here.
Blues Brothers Metal Refinishing: Blues Bros was started by a classmate and friend of JD, Jerry Eisenberg. JD worked with Jerry and his partner, Kristofer Gubrandsen (now the on site gunsmith for J&G) doing gunsmithing and metal finish-hot blue, slow rust, and other finishes. The Blues Brothers are located in Prescott Valley Arizona and can be reached at 928-308-2137.
